The dedication of the monument and the unveiling of the plaque in support of our troops took place today in the presence of the Commander of the 2nd Canadian Division Support Group, Colonel Jason Langelier, the Mayor of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Mr. Brent Montgomery, and the Member of Parliament for Portneuf, Mr. Joël Godin.
A monument in the form of a yellow ribbon bearing the phrase “Support Our Troops” was erected at the entrance to the Canadian Forces Base on the Valcartier Boulevard side. A plaque bearing an image of the troops and a citation was also unveiled at the foot of the monument.
“Knowing that a large part of its population is made up of military personnel, the Municipality of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier wanted to show its recognition and support for its troops for posterity,” said Brent Montgomery, Mayor of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier.
“The presence and involvement of the military in our lives is not disputed and has always been greatly appreciated by the entire population. The military exercises that we see and hear several times a year serve to remind us of the discipline that our soldiers demonstrate. On behalf of our citizens, we thank you for your bravery and courage,” he concluded.
